Supplemental
oxygen is a fact of life for many people. After the initial shock of being prescribed with supplemental oxygen
there is a stage of acute awareness of the oxygen but sometimes it's just so
routine that we don't remember to check the oxygen levels of the
patient. So be aware of the warning signs of lack of oxygen which are:
1. Cyanotic -Lips or nails turn a
bluish/purplish color.
2. Slurred words or not
making sense.
3. Headaches
4. Drowsiness
5. Obviously and increase in shortness of breath,
irregular breathing or breathlessness.
6. A feeling of anxiety.
These
are warning signs meant to help you avoid complications. They may
not necessarily reflect a lack of oxygen, but the good thing is that
with a pulse oximeter it is very easy, and quick, to check the oxygen
saturation levels.
